Papilio indra phyllisae - Phyllis’ Swallowtail 17 images Created 17 Dec 2015
People come from all over to see this subspecies. It has a rep and serious butterfliers like the challenge. I only know of one mountain peak in the Sierra Nevada where I can find them but there are others. I feel lucky if there's one or two at the summit where they fly incredibly fast and low over scree slopes. It took three consecutive trips before I got my first shot. It helps to have some experience observing them as rare opportunities to click the shutter will be brief.
