Welcome to Solar Darkroom Studio! You’re here because you got curious and clicked a page on my photography website or maybe you’re a musician and you’re thinking about having me mix your latest recording. That’s how it goes these days and the two worlds rarely collide but I’ve always found working with sound and light to be the same process on an aesthetic level. I started dreaming of making Jazz records when I heard Miles Davis’ Kind Of Blue for the first time at the tender age of 11.

Although my passion came out of playing music my desire to shape and control sound took over. I’ve spent 27 years working as an audio engineer and have worked in many different disciplines from mixing concerts, making records and working on movies and television shows. It’s all about understanding how we hear and feel sound. I have a lifetime of experience, about 40 CD releases, dozens of films and countless television shows.

These days I make a living working for a global corporation running a specialized audio department but my passion for music remains a motivating force. Technology has advanced to the point where I can mix a record comfortably in my home office and share the results with the artist securely over the internet. The days of booking studio time for a mix are over for me and I get to watch the birds and butterflies outside my window in beautiful Santa Monica CA.
